Course Summary

This course is designed to enhance your practice skills of social work by focusing on critical theories, advanced intervention techniques, and reflective practice. Through a blend of theoretical exploration and practical application, you will reflect on placement experiences within HWSS2258 Field Education A and refine your skills in delivering effective, justice-oriented social work interventions.
Through use of detailed scenarios throughout the semester, you will further develop capabilities in complex casework. In doing so, this course builds upon your knowledge of key theories, practice skills and lived experience frameworks for responding to people who experience trauma, violence and abuse, while also studying the legal and organisational contexts that have a bearing on casework. Throughout the semester, you will critically engage with the broader social contexts, social structures and institutions that marginalise people and communities that social workers engage with.
There is a mandatory attendance requirement for this course, in accordance with accreditation requirements set by the Australian Association of Social Workers. This means that you must be present in 9 out of 12 tutorial workshops to be eligible to pass the course.
