Course Summary
In this course, you will advance your public art practice through direct industry engagement, building on foundations you developed in Making Art Public: Practice. By connecting with practicing artists and industry professionals, you will transform your research and creative concepts into professional project proposals that meet industry standards and commissioning requirements.
Through structured interactions with public art professionals, you'll learn to navigate the complex landscape of public art projects and develop essential skills in project documentation, site analysis, installation methodology, budget planning, timelines, risk assessments, safety compliance, and stakeholder strategies.
You will connect with the sector through site visits to practicing artists, technical specialists, workshops, installations, site managers, safety consultants, fabricators, and local government and program offices who will share their expertise on successful project delivery.
Through exposure to real-world projects, you will enrich your creative investigations and be encouraged to build a portfolio that demonstrates your readiness for commissions and other public art opportunities.
This course includes Industry Partnered Learning (IPL) in the form of Industry Engaged Activities (IEA) such as site visits and guest speakers.
