Course Summary

In this course you will examine alternative modes of making, distributing, exhibiting and thinking about cinema, in ways that question and push the boundaries of what cinema might mean, what it looks and sounds like, and where we might encounter it. You will also examine how audience reception may vary when films depart from mainstream filmmaking methods and styles, or when encountering film in spaces outside of the traditional cinema theatre. You will analyse the role of curation in industry contexts such as festivals, microcinemas, arthouse cinemas and various other institutions.
In this course, you will also undertake Career Development Learning (CDL) activities/assessment to support your career development.
This course is a component of a major in Cinema Studies offered by the Bachelor of Media program.
