This course introduces students to a range of skills, tools, and critical perspectives essential to the production of modern digital journalism. Through a combination of lectures, practical workshops, and collaborative projects, students will learn how to create, manage, and optimise digital content across a variety of different digital platforms.
Students will also explore a range of critical issues such as how the platformisation of news, audience metrics and data are reshaping storytelling practices. Students will critically examine the ethical challenges of digital journalism, such as algorithmic biases, audience manipulation, AI use in digital production and the balance between editorial values and digital demands.
By the end of the course, students will have developed the technical skills needed to produce engaging digital stories, the critical capacity to assess the implications of platform-driven journalism, and work which can contribute to a personal portfolio of expertise.
