This course considers professional identity as an emerging counsellor, drawing on the ethical use of the reflexive self. You will build on strengths-based approaches while exploring the risks and potential harms of counselling practice for both service users and the practitioner.
Building on the knowledge and skills developed in (HWSS2267) Counselling Theory & Practice and (HWSS2268) Relational Counselling, you will understand the role of the reflexive self in counselling practice to facilitate attunement with service users.
Relevant theories and processes will be explored, critically analysed and applied. You will gain a deeper understanding and experience of professional supervision. Your wellbeing, emotional robustness and sustainability as a practitioner are a focus.
This course is part of the Bachelor of Social Science Mental Health & Wellbeing Major and the Counselling Minor.
