Course Summary

This course will privilege and centre first-person accounts of lived and living experiences of distress, trauma or altered states in relation to mental health, as well as drawing on concepts, frameworks and theories that are underpinned by critical knowledge.  

You will consider your positionality in relation to mental distress and critically evaluate associated discourses and dominant conceptualisations. You will also develop practice skills for working alongside people experiencing distress, that reflect, and are rooted in Lived and Living expertise wisdoms, and critical understandings of mental distress, trauma and altered states. 

This course is part of the Bachelor of Social Science Mental Health & Wellbeing Major and the Mental Health & Wellbeing Minor.
