In Writing in Frames: Comics and Screenplays, you will explore the nexus of the written word and visual image. You will investigate and produce both screenplays and comics, also called graphic storytelling. You will analyse the essentials of two specialised narrative forms, including professional screenplay formats and common methods for developing comics such as thumbnails and scripts. By developing your visual storytelling through both screenplays and comics, you will experiment with new ways to pace, organise, and represent ideas and stories. Led by industry specialists, each form will be addressed through discussion of exemplary texts, generative prompts and workshopping of drafts. You don’t need to know how to draw comics before you start this course, and it’s not about learning to draw.
