Course Summary

Drawing on traditions from film, in this course introduces you to the various histories, principles and strategies which underpin sound’s relationship in idea and image in linear narrative media.  

You will analyse and explore various approaches used by composers and sound designers to generate particular affective states in their audiences.  

Aligned with Indigenous perspectives on embodied knowledge, and theories of embodied cognition, is an exploration of how soundtrack can be used to generate a perspectival understanding of an audient’s place in the story-world. 

This course is part of the Major and Minor: Sound and Music.
