Policy Lab is a hands-on course where you will work on real-world policy problems. Instead of just reading about policy, you will dive into a live challenge and learn how to respond to it using a mix of practical research and creative problem-solving. Depending on the project, you might find yourself analysing data one week and interviewing the people affected by the policy the next. You will learn to look at problems from different angles to create solutions that are fair and well-reasoned, practical to build, and designed with people in mind. By working through the real-world hurdles of government and community work, you will gain the skills to choose the right tools to make a genuine difference.
This is a designated WIL course in which you will undertake industry-engaged activities related to a policy design challenge.
Activities include simulated workplace environments, and an iterative industry engaged project. You must complete the WIL Ready Module before undertaking WIL activity (although the module can be completed at any time during the student journey).
Depending on the nature of the policy design challenge for a given offering and the inclusion of external participants, you may also have to meet non-academic eligibility requirements (which may include but are not limited to immunisation or vaccination requirements, visas, Working with Children Checks, Police Checks, National Disability Insurance Scheme Worker Screening Check and responsibilities for associated costs).
