Environmental uncertainties have increasingly exposed globally connected supply chains to a wide range of disruptions that can significantly affect organisational performance and economic progress. Understanding how these disruptions could impact supply chain operations and how they could be managed has become an indispensable part of supply chain management strategies. This course introduces the core concepts of supply chain risk management (SCRM), together with practical techniques for identifying, assessing, and managing risks to build supply chain resilience (SCRes). Particular emphasis is placed on examining the merits and limitations of a broad range of SCRM strategies and SCRes frameworks arising from competing stakeholder demands and organisational priorities. The future of SCRM and SCRes as a discipline will be discussed, with specific attention given to the implications of increasing digitalisation of supply chain operations and rapid technological advancement.
