In this course, you will develop the reasoning and process skills that underpin occupational therapy practice. You will learn how occupational therapists gather and interpret information about occupational performance, work collaboratively with individuals to identify strengths, needs and goals, and use structured processes to guide decision-making. 

Through hands-on workshops, simulation-based learning and applied case scenarios, you will practise analysing occupational performance information and applying occupation-centred models and professional reasoning frameworks. Building on earlier learning, you will explore how assessment and intervention planning are shaped by context, culture, lived experience and evidence. 

Practical learning activities will support your development of core skills in interviewing, observation, activity analysis, intervention planning, documentation and professional communication. You will practise organising and synthesising occupational information, generating hypotheses and justifying your reasoning in structured and transparent ways. 

Simulation-based learning activities form part of the program’s Work Integrated Learning (WIL) model and provide opportunities to practise occupational therapy processes in safe, supported environments before undertaking extended practice education placements. 

By the end of the course, you will be able to apply structured occupational therapy processes and professional reasoning to analyse occupational performance, plan participation-focused strategies and communicate your decisions clearly and ethically.
