In this course, you will learn how occupational therapists support individuals to improve physical function and participate in everyday activities. You will explore how movement, strength, endurance and physical capacities influence occupational performance, and how biomechanical, physiological and pathophysiological factors shape participation in meaningful occupations.
Through case-based learning, practical workshops and simulation-based work integrated learning activities, you will develop skills in observing movement, assessing functional performance and planning safe, occupation-centred interventions. You will apply professional reasoning to analyse physical participation challenges and begin building confidence in supporting individuals experiencing injury, illness, pain, deconditioning and chronic health conditions.
You will integrate knowledge from movement science, rehabilitation and occupational therapy frameworks to understand how physical challenges influence everyday activities across different contexts. Learning activities will focus on functional assessment, task analysis, environmental modification and assistive strategies that support recovery, adaptation and participation. You will also explore how digital tools and rehabilitation technologies can support assessment and intervention.
Throughout the course, you will consider safety, cultural responsiveness, evidence-informed practice and ethical decision-making when enabling physical participation. By the end of the course, you will be able to integrate bioscience knowledge with occupational therapy principles to support participation and function across a range of practice contexts.
