In this course, you will learn how occupational therapists work with adults and older adults to support participation in everyday life across diverse and complex contexts. You will integrate earlier learning across physical, neurological, cognitive and psychosocial domains to understand the multifaceted factors that influence occupational engagement across adulthood and ageing, including changes in roles, identity, health and participation over the life course. 

Through case-based learning, applied workshops and interprofessional learning activities, you will explore contemporary approaches such as rehabilitation and reablement, chronic condition management, vocational and role recovery, mental health and healthy ageing. You will strengthen your evidence-informed decision-making by integrating research evidence, professional reasoning and the perspectives of individuals, families and communities to design responsive strategies that support participation, engagement and wellbeing. 

The course emphasises culturally responsive and trauma-informed practice. You will examine how culture, community, social determinants of health and systemic inequities influence participation and access to services, including approaches that recognise and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, strengths and connections to family and place. 

You will further develop skills in collaborating with families, carers, community organisations and interprofessional teams to support shared decision-making and participation across health, community and aged care systems. Learning activities will focus on adapting assessments, environments and interventions within complex service contexts to enable meaningful engagement. You will also consider how assistive technologies, digital tools and inclusive design approaches can support participation for adults and older adults.
