In this course, you will take a major step in your development as an emerging occupational therapist through an extended, supervised practice experience in an authentic occupational therapy setting. You will apply and integrate your learning across physical, cognitive, psychosocial and community practice while working with individuals, families, groups and communities to support meaningful participation in everyday life.  

Prior to placement, you will participate in preparatory intensives that consolidate key skills professional capabilities, including assessment, therapeutic communication, documentation, ethical decision-making and occupation-centred reasoning. These activities will strengthen your ability to apply evidence-informed practice in real-world contexts and prepare you to practise in culturally safe and responsive ways, including engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and community contexts.  

During the 6-week placement, you will engage in supervised workplace learning within an occupational therapy service environment. You will collaborate with interprofessional teams and progressively manage responsibilities appropriate to your stage of learning. This includes applying assessment and intervention approaches, adapting to contextual demands, and communicating your professional reasoning clearly and ethically while maintaining safe and accountable practice. 

Following placement, you will participate in a consolidation intensive that supports critically reflection on your learning, evaluation of your professional development and goal setting as you continue progressing toward entry-level occupational therapy practice
