Course Summary

In this double-credit practice education course, you will complete an 8-week immersive placement designed to support your transition to entry-level occupational therapy practice. Building on earlier work-integrated learning experiences and placements, you will practise with increasing autonomy under supervision, integrating advanced professional reasoning to enable participation and wellbeing for individuals, families, groups and communities across diverse and complex practice contexts.

During the placement you will undertake responsibilities expected of a graduating practitioner, including aspects of caseload coordination, collaborative practice and service delivery. You will apply evidence-informed and occupation-centred approaches in dynamic environments, adapting assessment and intervention strategies to respond to changing needs while maintaining safety, accountability and professional standards.

A central focus of this course is demonstrating culturally safe and responsive practice. You will work respectfully across diverse communities, including engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives where relevant, and critically reflect on how systems, organisational cultures and social determinants influence participation and access to services.
