Throughout this course, you will synthesise key psycho-legal, legal, and ethical issues to inform your practice in court, custodial, and community forensic settings. You will critically examine investigation and assessment processes in forensic mental health, ensuring your approach is culturally safe, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and grounded in human rights-based care. By evaluating the implications of physical and mental ill health for risk, management, and rehabilitation within legal or correctional systems, you will strengthen your capacity to deliver effective care. You will also critically appraise the contribution of mental health nursing to criminal justice systems at investigative, judicial, and correctional levels across state, national, and global contexts.
