Postgraduate by research programs

You may apply at any time for admission to RMIT research programs. We recommend that applicants set the commencement date on their application no earlier than two months from the submission of their expression of interest to allow time for the application to be processed. If you are applying for a specific research project, you are expected to submit your expression of interest and full application by the deadline.

International students can follow the dates listed on the international application dates page.

Your application process will depend on the course you're interested in. If you know which masters degree or graduate qualification you want to apply for, click the Apply button once you're on the course page.

Some of our masters degrees and graduate qualifications do have part-time study options available, which provides you with further flexibility to meet other commitments in your life. Part-time study is roughly half of the amount of a full-time study load.

The course page will usually list whether a part-time study option is available under the ‘duration’ section. However, the availability of part-time study loads may be subject to change, so you may wish to check with the friendly staff at Study@RMIT. Our staff are ready to answer any questions you have about programs, applications, pathways and important dates for local and international prospective students.

It is strongly recommended that you accept your offer as soon as possible. Otherwise, you may miss out on your preferred classes or your offer may lapse. If you haven’t already accepted before the deadline for your program, we will send you a reminder email.

Thinking of deferring? You can only defer to the next intake once you have accepted your offer. That way, we can keep your place for the next intake.

The first step is to check that you meet RMIT’s research entry requirements. RMIT admits applicants based on their demonstrated capacity to conduct independent research. All applicants for research programs must meet the minimum entry requirements for local and international students.

If you are an international applicant, you will also be required to provide evidence of English language proficiency. If you are from a country that is not on the list of countries recognised by RMIT as English-speaking you will need to provide official evidence of proficiency in the form of test results. Find out about the required level and types of evidence accepted.

After you’ve checked that you meet the entry requirements, you can proceed with your application.
