This course is the first of its kind in Australia and capitalises on the demand for food technologists with strong business management and marketing skills.
You'll gain the technical knowledge to work in the food industry and the management and marketing skills to design and promote innovative products.
The first two years includes foundation studies in food technology, nutrition and business.
The third year further develops your skills in food technology with studies in food microbiology and processing, sensory evaluation, and consumer behaviour. Your business studies continue with courses in business management and governance.
The final year comprises advanced food technology and management subjects, and projects that may be linked with a host food company to apply developed knowledge in a real-life context.

The Food Innovation and Research Centre is a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility where you will develop practical, hands-on skills with access to a modern pilot plant simulating industrial production, food preparation and processing equiplment.

Entry to this program is competitive. Applicants are ranked and selected in order of merit based on their academic achievement, e.g. ATAR or GPA (including any adjustments).
Satisfactory completion of at least four courses (subjects) at an Australian undergraduate level or overseas equivalent.
Satisfactory completion of an Australian Certificate IV or above or equivalent.
Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 senior secondary certificate of education or equivalent more than 2 years ago.
Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
You must sit the STAT Multiple Choice if:
– You have no prior Year 12, TAFE/VET qualifications, HE results or relevant work experience that meet the minimum entry requirements for the program
– You are 19 years of age or over (as of 1 Jan 2019) and have not enrolled in secondary studies for at least two years
The STAT Multiple Choice will satisfy Year 12 English and Year 11 Mathematics prerequisites. Applicants must meet all other prerequisites or equivalents. Learn more about RMIT STAT results.
Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 senior secondary certificate of education or equivalent. If applicable, this includes equity access schemes and any other adjustment factors.
Prerequisites
VCE Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any Mathematics.
Elite Athlete Program
The RMIT Elite Athlete Program (REAP) supports elite and emerging athletes to achieve sporting and academic excellence.

Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS)/RMIT Access

School Network Access Program (SNAP)
Available to applicants studying year 12 at a SNAP partner school.
The SNAP access scheme is designed to increase tertiary access and participation of eligible students by giving them priority access to RMIT diploma and degree programs.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
The Indigenous Access Program will support your application into RMIT programs through an informal interview process with support from the Ngarara Willim Centre. Your relevant life, work, educational and training experience as preparation for study, in addition to any formal qualifications, are all considered.

Acceptance of offer
Once you receive an offer to study at RMIT, read your offer letter thoroughly and make sure you understand the terms and conditions. Demand for places at RMIT is high so we recommend that you accept your offer as soon as possible. To accept your offer, you'll need to enrol. Advanced standing / Academic credit / Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
You may be entitled to apply for credit so your previous learning, whether formal or informal, or experience counts toward your RMIT program. Formal learning can include previous study in higher education, vocational education, or adult and community education. Informal learning can include on the job learning or various kinds of work and life experience.
Credit can reduce the amount of study needed to complete a degree.
Deferment
RMIT permits eligible offer holders to defer the commencement of their studies. If you wish to defer it is very important that you do not enrol. You may be eligible to defer your program if you do so before the last day to enrol for your commencing semester.

All undergraduate and honours degrees at RMIT have Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) available. As a CSP student, you may be eligible to apply for a HECS-HELP loan, which can be used to defer payment of up to 100% of your student contribution fees.
Commonwealth supported places (CSP) for 2019 range from AU$6,566 to AU$10,958*.
* Amounts quoted are indicative fees per annum, and are based on a standard year of full-time study (96 credit points). A proportionate fee applies for more or less than the full-time study load.
