Passionate about protecting the environment, Jessica Frasca decided to study a double degree in environmental science and environmental engineering.
Bachelor of Environmental Science/Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering) (Honours)
I was attracted to environmental science because I'm passionate about protecting the environment and I want to make a positive change.
I chose RMIT because I knew the practical learning would be a great way to get real insight into environmental science. Hands-on practice encourages you to learn quickly and make connections with the theoretical learning; while field trips have enriched my understanding in both ecology and environmental chemistry applications.
The highlight of my studies so far has been getting to know like-minded people who share the same passion: to protect the environment while building and growing through the use of sustainable engineering practices.
I’ve gained many skills in my degree so far; from being able to effectively work in a team on small-scale engineering-based projects to being out in the field using high tech instruments to collect qualitative data on diverse water samples.
Throughout my studies I have volunteered as a mentor for international students with the Mates at RMIT program. In the summer break I also like to volunteer for various environmental groups to gain extra experience and skills that might help me in my studies and my future career.
They say that if you enjoy what you do you won’t work a day in your life. I hope to find employment for an organisation that will allow me to travel and work with like-minded people to educate and encourage others to live a sustainable lifestyle.“
