After working with materials engineering experts in China, Yutao Bai wanted to increase his capabilities so he enrolled in a Master of Nanotechnology and Smart Materials at RMIT.
Master of Nanotechnology and Smart Materials
In my first year I participated in an off-site workshop at Olympus Australia involving microscopic technics that provided an interesting perspective on the importance of collaboration between research and industry.
I majored in inorganic and non-metallic materials engineering at university back in China and then went on to work with technical experts in the field at a global level.
During this time I realised first-hand experience and leading-edge skills were the key to success, so I decided to enhance my academic knowledge, extend my capabilities and simply satisfy my curiosity.
Nanotechnology was my first choice for postgraduate study as I recognised this area to be a transformative force in the future of materials science and engineering.
RMIT University is a leader in this discipline and offers the chance to work with renowned researchers in state-of-the-art facilities. I also valued the opportunity it provided to become immersed in a different culture and connected to the global network.
At RMIT I have worked with researchers to explore different applications in nanotechnology at the frontier of science in the physics, chemical and bimolecular disciplines. This interdisciplinary experience has been so fascinating I now want to dedicate my life to it.
I have used the nano research facilities at RMIT extensively, including the MicroNano Research Facility lab, the Centre of Excellence for Nanoscale BioPhotonics lab and Ian Potter NanoBioSensing Facility.
In my first year I participated in an off-site workshop at Olympus Australia involving microscopic technics that provided an interesting perspective on the importance of collaboration between research and industry. This year I look forward undertaking another work-integrated learning project.
I expect I will be research and career-ready on completion of this program, knowing there are infinite possibilities ahead.
