The highlight of my studies was the opportunity to travel with a small group of students to Singapore for a three week teaching experience.
“A degree in physical education (PE) seemed a logical choice as I’ve always enjoyed PE, and love teaching and working with children. I thoroughly enjoyed my physical education studies at school, and I’m determined to ensure that my students will also have positive experiences.
I chose to study at RMIT because friends had completed the program and spoke very highly of both the courses and the amount of placement undertaken.
RMIT’s PE degree is accredited with the Victorian Institute of Teaching, and offers a placement every semester, which means as a student I receive continual practice and the opportunity to improve and refine my skills.
Most recently I spent a valuable eight weeks at Fitzroy High School, teaching PE and Biology, and learning firsthand about the day-to-day life of a teacher.
The highlight of my studies was the opportunity to travel with a small group of students to Singapore for a three week teaching experience. This unique experience allowed us to learn about how differences in culture affect education.
While completing my degree I have also gained AFL and NRL coaching qualifications, and have learned to tutor children as part of the Tennis Hotshots program.
I aim to get a teaching job as soon as I graduate, and will continue to further my skills so that I can provide extra support as a student welfare coordinator to students in need.
My advice to anyone thinking about studying physical education at RMIT would be to take every opportunity that comes your way. You are never too old or experienced to stop learning.“
