Learn the process of designing, knitting and finishing a knitted garment with sleeves. You will learn how to modify a basic block to produce your own knitted sweater or wrap cardigan with sleeves. Explore fully fashioned shaping techniques and partial knitting to achieve a neckline and knit a seamless double hem.

Course content

  • Create tension swatches
  • Convert cm’s to stitches and rows
  • Modify a basic block and create your own machine knitting pattern using correct knitting terminology
  • Learn the Magic Formula for sleeve and armhole shaping
  • Knitting your own machine knitted garment with hems and finishing techniques
  • Cast on/off and shaping - increase/decrease on the knitting machine
  • Seaming and blocking

    Machine Knitting - Level 1 or equivalent experience is required.

    Materials supplied

    All materials and knitting machine equipment will be supplied. Participants may supply and use some of their own yarns as part of the learning experience if yarn approved by teacher.

    Materials to bring

    Pen, paper and/or laptop for note taking. Measuring tape, masking tape. Yarn or wool needles.

    In this wonderful current environment of old skills being revived and refreshed and the love of craft and the handmade being cherished, there no better time to learn make your own machine knitted garment. This course is suited to anyone who wishes to develop their machine knitting skills further and to learn the fundamentals of how design, knit and finish a machine knitted garment. fdsf

    On completion of the course the student will have developed more technical skills in machine knitting and created their own knitting pattern from a basic block. They will gain skills in blocking and seaming and make a knitted garment with sleeves and documented the process. Upon finishing the course you will receive a RMIT Certificate of Completion. You can use this as a record to demonstrate the outcomes covered in the course.
