Take your dressmaking skills to the next level with our fabulous teachers. You will learn how to make a dress and/or a pair of pants, expanding the skills learnt in your RMIT Sewing course (or similar). Gain more confidence and experience, while learning professional finishes. This is an opportunity to enjoy a fun environment with fellow sewing enthusiasts. Pre-requisites apply.

  • Continue practicing with zips, interfacing, seams, darts, and hems
  • Understanding and fitting commercial patterns
  • Lined bodice
  • Fly front zip

Students MUST have completed the RMIT Sewing course (or similar) or be at intermediate level and be very familiar with machine sewing and making clothes from commercial patterns.

Materials supplied

Use of our professional sewing studio including industrial sewing machine. All relevant course notes are supplied with comprehensive instructions and exercises.

Materials to bring

You will receive a detailed list of materials required for this course approx 7 days before course commences, it includes fabric, a basic sewing kit and a pattern.

Suited to

For students who have completed our Sewing course (or similar) and who want to continue learning sewing skills and techniques to take their dress making to the next level. Also for students who want more confidence and will gain from being in a supervised environment with experienced professionals. A 10% discount is available for all students who have completed Sewing 1 level at RMIT. Please ensure that you call 9925 8111 and have your client number ready for the staff.

By the end of this course, participants will have a more professional knowledge of sewing and will have produced one or two garments (dress and/or pants) depending on their individual pace of learning.

Upon finishing the course you will receive a RMIT Certificate of Completion. You can use this as a record to demonstrate the outcomes covered in the course.
