Strengthen interpreting skills and gain confidence and experience required to sit the NAATI interpreter test (Mandarin). This course will prepare learners to understand the requirements of the NAATI test, through role plays and strategy development and practice testing.

Course content

  • Practice skills, techniques and knowledge necessary to interpret in dialogue, sight translation, chuchotage, and in consecutive speech settings.
  • Understand the dynamics of communication settings in interpreting.
  • Learn memory, comprehension and note-taking skills.
  • Learn discourse management skills in dialogue settings.
  • Gain knowledge of test-taking techniques specific to NAATI test.

Test candidates who meet the training requirements to sit a NAATI Certified Interpreter test.

Materials supplied

Extensive resources in interpreting including digital dialogue and consecutive interpreting passages which will be used as a basis of interpreting practice. All relevant course notes are supplied with comprehensive instructions and exercises.

Materials to bring

Pen, paper and/or laptop for note taking.

Suited to

Test candidates who have met the training requirements to sit a NAATI Certified Interpreter test. The Intensive Course is designed for students who have an intermediate or above level of English and LOTE, and who are planning on taking the NAATI Certified Interpreting test in the near future.


Improvement in the general level of interpreting skills, both in terms of accuracy and fluency. Prepare for and practise the skills and techniques of the exam in order to achieve full potential. By the end of the course, students will learn the skills and techniques to interpret in dialogue, sight translation, monologue and chuchotage settings.

Upon finishing the course you will receive a RMIT Certificate of Completion. You can use this as a record to demonstrate the outcomes covered in the course.
