Step into the realm of data architecture. From strategic planning and innovative design to seamless implementation, you'll learn to develop cutting-edge data management systems for organisations. Craft relational databases, construct cloud-based data warehouses with OLAP models, and engineer scalable data lake architectures to tackle the challenges of big data.  

This Data Architect course will be delivered to you in partnership with Udacity, meaning you’ll have access to both Udacity’s learning and career services as well as RMIT Online’s course enablement support through our Learner Success Team. 


After completing an RMIT Future Skills course, you will earn an RMIT credential which can be validated, recognised and shared on social media platforms.


By the end of this course you’ll be able to:  

  • Build conceptual, logical, and physical entity relationship diagrams (ERDs) 
  • Architect a physical database in PostGreSQL 
  • Transform data from transactional systems into an operational data store 
  • Create a data warehouse system using dimensional data models 
  • Use appropriate storage and processing frameworks to manage big data 
  • Design end-to-end batch and stream processing architecture 
  • Establish data governance best practices including metadata management, master data management, and data quality management 

How does it work ?

During this course, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your newly acquired Data Architect skills through a series of projects. 

In your first project you'll design, build and populate a database for the HR department at a videogame company. In the second, you'll design a data Warehouse for Reporting and OLAP. Your third project will have you design an Enterprise Data Lake System and lastly, you will implement new Data Governance at an online shoe retailer. 

When can I do it ?


Prior to enrolling you should have the following knowledge:  

  • Relational database management systems or foundational database skills  
  • Intermediate Python  
  • Intermediate SQL  
  • Batch processing and stream processing frameworks  
  • Operating systems, including UNIX, Linux, and MS Windows  
  • Basics of ETL/data pipelines
