Approach to learning and assessment
The units have been grouped into four themes to learn about various aspects of the building industry:
Theme 1: TBA
Theme 2: TBA
Theme 3: TBA
Theme 4: TBA
These program themes will be delivered utilising class face to face workshops, including presentations by guest building professionals, site visits and on-line learning (both facilitator lead and self-directed).
To reinforce the learning gained in your training, you are required to apply the learning to your workplace through a number of assessment tasks. The focus of these assessments will be on what you are learning and how you are applying the concepts and ideas in your work environment.
Where possible, assessment tasks are integrated into the delivery of each theme. However there is an expectation that you will do some assessment work in your own time.
Details of assessments will be provided in the respective theme guide. However, in general terms, assessment tasks and delivery methods have been selected from the following:
Learner guide activities
The learner guide provided to you contains lessons, reference materials, and activities that will be conducted in class and independently. The learner guide then becomes evidence of your competency and understanding of the materials that will be delivered. The learner guide also becomes a valuable reference for you to use in the future.
Tutorial
Lectures by our qualified teaching staff, along with key guest speakers, make up the tutorials in face to face delivery. Guest speakers will be experts in their particular specialty and will augment the lecturer’s materials.
e-Learning
The program utilises the latest in e-Learning online systems. Elements of the lessons may be delivered using online access by way of the internet, both in real-time and when you have the time scheduled to access the materials. The online material augments the learner guide and tutorials providing a way to accommodate your busy schedules, while making our teaching staff accessible in a flexible manner.
Journal
A journal or portfolio is your own notes and reflections that demonstrate your understanding of the materials delivered in the course. You add to the journal your own observations of how the lessons relate to your workplace, how you might implement these lessons and new ideas, and how you synthesise the concepts and ideas that are delivered. You will supplement the journals with evidence from work and other resources to create a comprehensive resource for current and future use.
Toolbox
Toolbox is a part of the online content and allows you to go through a self-paced lesson plan with activities that may be assessed for competency. These are proven programs that have a rich level of content relevant to the industry.
On-Site
On-site delivery may be on the company premises or on a job site location where a practicum may involve a walkthrough of a job site with lecture and journal entries.
If you have a long term medical condition and/or disability you can apply for adjustments to your study and assessment (Reasonable Adjustments and Equitable Assessment Arrangements) by registering with the Disability Liaison Unit (DLU) at http://www1.rmit.edu.au/browse;ID=01daxmpd1vo4z
