Course Description

This course investigates the role of technology in global business with particular emphasis on business perspectives of social media. You will be provided with valuable business skills through the application of theories, concepts and skills to various disciplines of study. You will also benefit from various opportunities to work in multi- and cross-disciplinary team, which will expose you to a diversity of ideas, knowledge and skills. Globalisation and social media will be explored by examining various case studies, contemporary issues and practices related to implementation, you will be able to make appropriate decisions about the strategic positioning of social media within various organisations and industries. By examining usage in everyday life and in the construction of identities, you will gain insights into how the changing role of users also affects business strategy.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Critically evaluate and apply social technology principles in dynamic, networked, and virtual global settings.
  2. Develop social technology enabled business strategies for sustainable growth and innovation using research, development and commercialisation principles and apply them in various industry and community contexts.
  3. Develop technical and business skills and competencies to support professional global practices to manage networked global relationships of both virtual and physical nature.
  4. Utilise cognitive and communication skills that demonstrate your mastery of theoretical knowledge and critical reflection on theory and professional practice.
  5. Demonstrate a high level of personal autonomy and accountability in your professional practices. 
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of social value creation to create socially and environmentally appropriate responses to business practice.

You are required to actively engage in the learning process by completing the required reading, through active participation in group activities and in-class and/or online discussions.
