Course Description

This course develops and extends your knowledge of the analysis and design process for business information systems (IS) by introducing: object-oriented techniques using the UML notation for analysis and design; the requirements discovery process, taking into account softsystems methodology (SSM); the process of modelling business processes; the different structures by which information systems development teams can organise themselves; and modern IS development methodologies including the Rational Unified Process (RUP) and Agile.   This course includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

CLO1: Critically analyse business needs and problems in a complex business environment. CLO2: Apply IT developmental tools and techniques in designing and recommending business solutions. CLO3: Effectively communicate the system analyses and the solution professionally in written reports and verbal presentations. CLO4: Work as a team to analyse business needs and propose relevant business solutions.

These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.

Assessment Tasks 1 and 2 involve simulated case studies, and feedback is provided by the lecturers and a professional Business Analyst. Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or in online forums through individual and group feedback on practical exercises and by individual consultation.
