Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
Pre-requisites are an appreciation of scientific communication and methods. Student should have passed ONPS 2334 Scientific Skills and Communication or an equivalent course, or provide evidence of equivalent capabilities.
Course Description
This Course prepares participants to assess trainees on or off the job and to plan, develop, prepare, present, manage and evaluate training for groups or for one to one training.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
At the completion of the course participants should be able to:
• Understand competency based assessment in the workplace
• Apply practical approaches to conducting training needs analysis
• Develop facilitation skills and motivational strategies for adult learners
• Promote training within your organization
On successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
• Plan the workplace assessment strategy
• Set up a workplace assessment activity
• Carry out assessment and record the details
• Review assessment
Prepare a training session
• Deliver a training session
• Evaluate a training session
• Manage the administration and logistics of a workplace training session
Overview of Learning Activities
The learning activities included in this course are:
• attendance at lectures where syllabus material will be presented and explained, and the subject will be illustrated with demonstrations and examples;
• development and presentation of assessment and training materials
• private study, working through the course as presented in classes and learning materials, and gaining practice at solving conceptual and numerical problems.
Overview of Learning Resources
Students will be provided with lists of relevant texts, library resources (Including appropriate journals) and freely accessible Internet sites. Other material will be provided in class.
Overview of Assessment
There will be a variety of assessments including tests, oral presentation and written assignments.
Eight competencies are assessed.
