Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

None.

Students undertaking this course are expected to enrol in OMGT1021/OMGT2286 Supply Chain Principles, a companion course which provides the theoretical backdrop for the practical learning activities in this course.


Course Description

This course introduces the operational processes and associated issues of logistics management in a number of supply chain areas, e.g. warehousing, distribution, inventory management and transportation. 

This course includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context. Feedback provided from industry/academic community will be integral to your experience.

On successful completion of this course, you should be able to:

  1. Evaluate the range of factors that contribute to effective and efficient supply chain and logistics operations.
  2. Analyse key characteristics of logistics best practices and relate them to logistics theories and concepts.
  3. Appreciate the roles of information and technology in logistics and supply chain operations.
  4. Appreciate and analyse the range and complexity of supply chain relationships, in particular the involvement of outsourced contractors and service providers.
  5. Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills in team-based supply chain operations.


Overview of Learning Activities

The learning activities for the course consist of:

  • Online discussion and peer-learning activities
  • Basic research and data collection methods
  • Individual and group-based written work 
  • Analysis and critique 


These learning activities have been designed to enhance students’ understanding of contemporary logistics and supply chain issues. They also assist students in achieving the Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) and Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs).
