Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
You must have passed EEET2313 Research Project Part 1 in the first attempt. Furthermore, it must have been undertaken in the preceding semester, unless exemption is granted by the Course Coordinator and academic supervisor.
Course Description
A Research Project involves exploring a scientific or engineering question at the frontier of knowledge.
By undertaking a research project, you will develop basic skills in analysis of literature, systematic collection of data, evaluation of data, drawing insight from results, and presenting these results in written and oral forms.
During the course, you will continue the research undertaken in EEET2313 Research Project Part 1. You will plan, execute, and report on this project.
The research project could be standalone or contribute an individually assessable component of a larger research effort. The scope of this project should be defined in consultation with your academic supervisor, but should align to your chosen specialisation.
This course relates to a part-time research project. This is equivalent to the second half of a one-semester full-time project.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course and its assessment develop the following Program Learning Outcomes:
• Be able to apply problem solving approaches to work challenges and make decisions using sound engineering methodologies.
• Be able to apply a systematic design approach to engineering projects and have strong research and design skills in their stream.
• Communicate effectively across all modes: listen, speak, write, and draw.
• Apply the principles of lifelong learning to any new challenge.
On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
• Critically assess relevant literature / technologies from your literature survey.
• Gather, analyse, and gain insight from data.
• Effectively conduct an independent research or development activity.
• Effectively communicate verbally, in writing and by audio visual presentations.
Overview of Learning Activities
Learning activities include:
• Definition of project/problem
• Review of scientific literature
• Definition of research questions and methodology
• Application of research method (often experimental)
• Data acquisition
• Data interpretation and discussion
• Report writing
• Presentation of results
Overview of Learning Resources
Your resources for this course include:
• Academic supervisor
• Technical staff
• Software and IT infrastructure
• Laboratory resources (and experimental infrastructure, where applicable)
• Library resources (on-site, online, and off-campus)
Overview of Assessment
A combination of performance at supervisory interactions/meetings, written reports, and presentations. Specific assessment tasks include:
• Project description (5%)
• Research project thesis structure (10%)
• Research project thesis (35%)
• Research project presentation (20%)
