Course Description
In this course you will learn the importance of detailed specification packs which allow detailed information to be successfully communicated between design and local/off shore manufacturing and production processes . You will develop a wide range of skills in this area including how garments are sized. This information will be used to grade a range of patterns in different sizes without compromising the fit and proportion of the garment.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
1. Apply and creatively adapt a body of theoretical and technical knowledge and skills in fashion design and technology to your practice or future study
4. Communicate effectively and collaboratively in a team environment relevant to fashion practice
5. Identify, analyse and reflect on fashion technology in a local and/or global context
7. Apply initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in your own work and working as part of a team
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
• Analyse and apply your knowledge of knit machine requirements and grade rules to patterns and fully fashioned knit garments
• Identify garment features or fabric characteristics that may affect the grading process
• Produce accurate specifications used to communicate production requirements for garment manufacture
• Identify and use different types of specification sheets in a range of contexts
• Investigate, analyse and communicate the accurate specifications of a garment design to ensure that production achieves the design brief.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment of this course will cover practical components of grading and the theoretical and practical requirements of developing specification reports. Assessment may include industry projects and practical assessment tasks based on an industry relevant design brief requirement.
Ongoing feedback will be provided to enable you to monitor your own performance including detailed feedback on assessed tasks.
