Course Description

This course will develop and expand your knowledge of project management through direct engagement with a range of industry sectors.
The objectives of this course are to develop and expand your knowledge of: the specialised practice of project management across different industry sectors; the different contexts in which project managers practice; and how different project management methodologies are applied across these different domains.
This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience.
 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  • PLO1: Determine and apply knowledge of complex project management theory to your professional practice and/or further study
  • PLO2: Professionally communicate to a range of audiences, demonstrating in depth knowledge of the discipline and of the needs of diverse project management stakeholders
  • PLO3: Apply logical, critical and creative thinking to analyse, synthesise and apply theoretical knowledge, and technical skills, to formulate evidenced based solutions to industry problems or issues
  • PLO5: Collaborate effectively with others and demonstrate intellectual independence and autonomy to solve problems and/or address industry issues and imperatives
  • PLO6: Critically examine and reflect on the profession, in local and/or global contexts, and question accepted interpretations and decision making
     


Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. CLO1: Identify how the nature of an industry sector determines the approach required for effective project management
  2. CLO2: Critically reflect on and examine project management practice across diverse industry sectors
  3. CLO3: Assess industry sector needs and priorities to determine an appropriate project management approach
  4. CLO4: Analyse and discuss the project management needs of a particular industry sector
  5. CLO5: Recommend and justify a project management approach that is applicable to a particular industry sector 


Overview of Learning Activities

This course will be delivered through series of lectures and tutorials. Project management industry experts will be invited as guest lecturers. You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectures, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Task 1: Open book test (35%) Addresses the following learning outcomes: CLO1, CLO2, CLO3, CLO4, CLO5. 

Task 2: In small groups, students will prepare an in-depth industry report (30%). Addresses the following learning outcomes: CLO1, CLO3, CLO5. 

Task 3: You will develop a narrated presentation (35%). Addresses the following learning outcomes: CLO2, CLO3, CLO4. 

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
