Course Description

This course builds on your learning from Research Methods for the Built Environment. You will further develop and apply your understanding of the research process, including the research methodology, and expand your knowledge of your research topic, which includes your knowledge of the related theory.

Working under the guidance of your lecturer / academic supervisor you will fully develop your research topic and draft a research plan, drawing upon published literature and secondary data.  

This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience. Input and guidance from an industry mentor via face-to-face and/or through online meetings will inform the development and refinement of your research.
 
Your learning in this course and the outputs you produce will contribute to your honours thesis, to be completed in BUIL1307 Research Practice 2, where you will further expand your reading, analysis and synthesis of relevant literature to inform your research.  

Please note that if you take this course for a Bachelor Honours program, your overall mark in this course will be one of the course marks that will be used to calculate the weighted average mark (WAM) that will determine your award level. (This applies to students who commence enrolment in a bachelor honours program from 1 January 2016 onwards. See the WAM information web page for more information.)

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes (PLO):
