Course Description
In this course you will initiate, research and develop a range of fashion materials, techniques and expressions. The projects enable you to scaffold the development and highlight the design strategies that resonate most with your practice.
You will determine your palette of materials, techniques, and expressions that relate to your industry aspirations or interests for future study. You will critically reflect on, research and experiment with your samples and propositions to determine the pitch and proposal for your major project in semester 2.

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
PLO1: Demonstrate extensive, advanced and specialised knowledge of fashion, its related disciplines and emerging global markets
PLO2: Develop critical and ethical strategies to practice and communicate your advanced knowledge of fashion in a global context
PLO3: Determine and apply the specialist knowledge and technical skills required to creatively solve problems, demonstrating independent expert judgment and ethical responsibility relating to your professional practice in the broader system of fashion
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
CLO1: Research and advance different design materials, techniques and expressions of fashion design practice
CLO2: Investigate critical and ethical design strategies for contemporary and global fashion design practice
CLO3: Explore different design strategies and express fashion design thinking through image and text
CLO4: Extend investigations into a series of working propositions and samples that demonstrate the specialisations of your practice
CLO5: Propose and communicate your work effectively to peers, staff and industry peers using a variety of different mediums
Overview of Learning Activities
Your learning will be facilitated via a range of optional studio based activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Learning activities promote your ability to explore design, investigate, analyse and understand fashion practice.
Tutorials, workshops, site visits and masterclasses are facilitated by teaching staff, industry practitioners and specialists. These act as a catalyst to develop your specialisations of fashion practice, contexts that you would like to practice in, investigations into materials, techniques, expressions and communication strategies.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome. They are as follows:
Assessment Task 1: IMMERSION – MATERIALS/ TECHNIQUES Studio visit of early project development (30%) CLO 1, CLO 2, CLO 4 and CLO 5
Assessment Task 2: EXPRESSIONS REVIEW Live showing (50%) CLO 3, CLO 4 and CLO 5
Assessment Task 3: ADVANCED FASHION MATERIALS, TECHNIQUES, AND EXPRESSIONS - PROJECT, PITCH Digital submission (20%) CLO 3, CLO 4 and CLO 5
