It is assumed that you will have met the requirements for the majority of Year 1 and Year 2 courses in BH116 Bachelor of Applied Science (Surveying) (Honours) or BH117 Bachelor of Science (Geospatial Science) (Honours)
Course Description
This is a course of approved study in the field of surveying and / or geospatial science undertaken as an overseas study tour which investigates and reports on a specified topic. Prior to commencement of the tour, you will investigate and report on the topic. The course will improve your understanding of the theory and practice of surveying and or geospatial science in another country or in a global setting.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course contributes to the following Program Learning Outcomes for BH116 Bachelor of Applied Science (Surveying) and BH117 Bachelor of Science (Geospatial Science):
1.1 Describe the fundamental and applied scientific knowledge that underpins surveying and the geospatial sciences.
1.3 Understand specialist bodies of knowledge in surveying and geospatial science
5.1 Appreciate the environmental, social, legal and international aspects of actions and decisions in surveying and the geospatial sciences.
6.1 Be self-motivated and personally responsible for your actions and learning.
On completion of this course you should be able to:
- Gather information relating to a specific topic in surveying or geospatial science.
- Analyse and evaluate that information to draw appropriate conclusions and answers to project related questions.
- Produce a project report of a high professional standard.
- Communicate the outcomes of the project to an audience of peers.
Overview of Learning Activities
You will participate in a selection of the following: pre-study tour literature review; lectures and pre-lecture reading, practical and computer laboratory based projects, site visits and study tours, seminars and workshops, projects and placements. You will be expected to report, verbally and in written form, on your experiences and the results of your investigations.
Teacher Guided Hours: 36 per semester
Learner Directed Hours: 60 per semester

Learning resources will consist of lecture materials; online websites and databases; reference papers and texts; and software applications.
