Course Description

The aim of this course is to consolidate your understanding of the principles and elements of design theory. You will explore, develop and apply 3D modelling and construction skills and techniques. In response to a range of project briefs you will develop creative works for final presentation.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

See Learning Outcomes.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Develop principles and elements design theory by applying them to your design projects.
  2. Choose and apply appropriate techniques for the presentation of your concepts and designs.
  3. Evaluate and justify decisions and choices made in the completion of projects.

Program Learning Outcomes

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  1. Explain and apply foundational knowledge in one or more academic disciplines.
  2. Work independently and in groups to meet learning outcomes.
  3. Apply approaches to critical and analytical thinking and problem solving.
  4. Use a range of current learning technologies to enhance academic outcomes.

Overview of Learning Activities

Project work will incrementally build on knowledge gained from earlier projects so that projects increase in complexity over time. This will reinforce knowledge and skills introduced in earlier projects.

Practical demonstration of creative ability and understanding of learning outcomes will be developed through exercises and projects. Project work and the workbook will be supervised and assessed progressively in a studio environment.

Overview of Learning Resources

RMIT will provide you with the resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems.

The University Library has extensive resources for Foundation Studies students. The Library has produced a number of subject guides that includes quality online and print resources for your studies http://rmit.libguides.com/cat.php?cide=29912.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Assessment tasks are ongoing throughout the semester and may include your project work in both 2D, 3D and a workbook.

Assessment tasks will include:

  • Studio Project 1 – 30% LO1, LO2, LO3
  • Studio Project 2 – 30% LO1, LO2, LO3
  • Studio Project 3 – 40% LO1, LO2, LO3
