You should have satisfactorily completed GRAP2745 Design Studies – Capstone 1 and have also acquired at least 252 credit points before you commence this course.Alternatively, you may be able to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge before you start this course.

Course Description
This course is your final major project where you will be offered a high degree of creative and intellectual freedom to develop your own innovative design ideas and solutions. You will be encouraged to apply your theoretical and practical skills in your chosen design discipline to a particular context or challenge. Integrating your previous learning and applying it to a real-world problem will require further development of research, problem identification/definition and problem-solving capability. You will be required to develop your real-world design solution to at least a prototype stage and to present this to lecturers and peers for critical feedback leading to further solution and refinement.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course supports your development in these program learning outcomes:
PLO6 Exercise creativity, critical thinking and independent judgment to identify and solve real-world design challenges and define and communicate innovative solutions.
PLO7 Apply planning, problem-solving and decision-making skills to the end-to-end design process.
PLO8 Develop responsibility and accountability for development of a personal design practice that demonstrates an original, ethical, innovative and professional approach to design.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
CLO1 Employ a diverse range of design and research methods to identify and analyze a real-world situation, issue, challenge or problem.
CLO2 Develop an original design response that, supported by aesthetic considerations, demonstrates creativity and innovation and considers the intended target audience or user.
CLO3 Refine design solutions based on critical evaluation and feedback from your tutors and peers.
CLO4 Document and articulate the development of your personal practice with in-depth analysis and reflection.
Overview of Learning Activities
Delivered in a design studio format, and with proper teaching support, you will be provided with a high degree of freedom to define your own design challenge/problem, develop your own research and thinking relevant to the social, environmental, ethical or cultural domain and propose/develop your own design solutions. You will be encouraged to develop your creative skills, sense of ethics and critical self-appraisal to develop innovative design outcomes. You will also exhibit your work to peers and a range of teaching staff in a final showcase setting.
Overview of Learning Resources
RMIT University will provide you with a range of resources and tools to engage in this course, including studio and workshop facilities, online systems and professional equipment. A selected range of supplies are available, as well as support from technical staff. You will also have access to a wide range of online resources through RMIT Vietnam University Library.
Some projects that involve constructed outputs may require additional materials – this will be negotiated with the lecturer when the project scope is agreed.
Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course Learning Outcomes and on your development against the Program Learning Outcomes. Assessment is based on an evaluation of your level of attainment in the development and delivery of an integrated project that applies design theory, skills and previous project-based experience to a real-world social, environmental or sustainability issue.

Assessment Task 1: Project Definition, Development and Management, 60%.CLO 1, 3, 4
Assessment Task 2: Project Milestone 2 – Final Design Outcomes, 40%. CLO 2
