Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

 

You are strongly advised to complete at least 228 credits and have completed Programming Project 1 and 2 (COSC2502-3) before enrolling in this course but there is no enforced pre-requisite for this course.

Industry Internship Requirements

An agreement including schedule and relevant insurance documentation is required to be completed before commencing each internship (local and international). International placements must be registered and processed through RMIT Education Abroad (Melbourne) / RMIT Career Development and Employment (Vietnam).  In the case where a placement ends early, please refer to 6. Early Termination of Placements in the Work Integrated Learning Procedure.


Course Description

In this course you will apply your knowledge and skills in an industry environment. This will be a culmination of your learning throughout the program. As a situated learning experience, an internship* provides you with the opportunity to apply and further develop your knowledge and skills, and gain an understanding of industry dynamics. This course will integrate work based learning and academic learning, commonly referred to as Work Integrated learning (WIL), and will allow you to solve authentic industry problems or address real issues faced in organisations.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course is an option course so it is not required to contribute to the Program Learning Outcomes. However this course should assist you to achieve several Program Learning Outcomes.


On completion of this course you should be able to:

Overview of Learning Activities

To achieve the learning objectives, this course requires you to participate in various learning activities. These activities comprise the following:

  • Work full-time for your employer, demonstrating professional behaviour and attitudes, and making a meaningful contribution wherever possible to the organization.
  • Return to campus to attend three multidisciplinary workshops that will help you develop your employability skills and prepare assignments 1 & 3. Your employer will be directly notified of the workshop schedule and requested to release you from work early on those days.
  • Participate in an online community for RMIT internship students where you can post questions, comments and advice for peers as well as accessing useful resources, tips and other information.
  • Prepare for and attend a debrief interview at the end of your internship with your lecturer and workplace mentor or supervisor.
