Course Description

This course has an emphasis on numeracy leadership and professional learning that can identify school-wide issues in teaching and develop approaches to addressing those issues. You will explore the skills and knowledge required to be an be a graduate generalist teacher who has specialized knowledge of mathematics teaching and leadership. You will read and interpret school wide numeracy data and use this information to effect change in a school setting. You will explore effective strategies to lead the development of whole school approaches to numeracy teaching and learning, curriculum planning and professional learning

Overview of Learning Activities

In this course you will explore the role of a Primary School Mathematics Leader. You will look closely at current mathematics resources and reflect on their quality and purpose in schools. You will look at whole school assessment data and design a professional learning meeting that will address identified student learning needs with the goal to effect change at a school level. You will be provided with a number of opportunities to practice the expert skills developed in this course and exhibit highly effective leading in Mathematics. You will understand strategies for working effectively with parents and carers to promote Mathematics and explore ways to involve parents in the educative process. 

Your learning in this course will involve a range of activities including lectures, workshops, practical activities, individual tasks, collaborative group work, discussion and individual reflection.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.   
  
Task 1: Developing a mathematics scope and sequence CLO1, CLO4 (30%)  
  
Task 2: Planning and conducting professional learning in mathematics CLO2, CLO3 (40%)  
  
Task 3: Reflecting on your readiness to lead in mathematics CLO2, CLO3, CLO4 (30%)  
  
Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
