Course Description
This course aims to develop knowledge and skills allied to your professional practice as a health, physical education and sport teacher, and beyond the classroom. You will learn employability skills by augmenting: written and verbal communication, preparation of job applications, development of resumes, responding to key selection criteria, cover letters, using the STAR-L technique, searching for jobs, preparing for interview, career strategic planning and portfolio development.
In addition, you will learn to develop skills to enable future engagement in professional learning in school settings. You will learn about the mentoring process and be given opportunity to demonstrate your leadership by being involved in mentoring of first year students, in addition to teaching within primary schools.
The opportunity to attend an outdoor education residential camp will be available to all course participants. This course includes a Work Integrated Learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a school environment and where feedback from supervising staff and mentors are integral to the learning experience.

Your learning in this course will involve a range of face-to-face and online activities including lectures, workshops, practical activities, readings, collaborative group work, class discussion and individual reflection.
Your learning in this course will also involve professional experience in an educational classroom setting.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.
In order to pass this course, you are required to receive a satisfactory assessment on your professional experience, in accordance with expectations outlined in the PX Handbook for the course. Due to safety and professional accreditation requirements students must satisfactorily complete all practical sessions. If you fail to meet this requirement, for reasons other than those approved by special considerations, you will not pass the course. If granted Special Consideration, you may become eligible to complete alternative professional experience and/or practical activity to pass the course.
