Course Description

This course provides you with an overview of the history of fashion trends, the fashion pyramid and the fashion season, calendar and cycle. You will learn how culture, street-style, the role of celebrity and the new fashion-influencers impact contemporary fashion markets. You will learn how to analyse and apply trend forecasting tools to create mood-boards, trend reports and range development.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes 

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

PLO1: Critically review, analyse and evaluate theory and industry knowledge relevant for fashion enterprise in the global fashion business environment.

PLO2: Apply a range of creative and commercial skills to successfully practice in a range of roles in the field of fashion enterprise.

PLO4: Communicate using a range of formats and strategies to diverse audiences within and external to the fashion enterprise field.

PLO5: Work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness, and ethical and reflective practice.

PLO6: Take initiative and apply judgment in planning, problem solving and decision making in your practice or future study.


Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO 1: Analyse, evaluate and predict trends in a fashion business environment.

CLO 2: Identify consumer profiles to determine key directions, and trends to develop mood boards.

CLO 3: Demonstrate an ability to critically review and collate visual evidence of current fashion trends for the development of new ranges.

CLO 4: Apply fashion forecasting and product ranging concepts to develop a practical range development plan.

CLO 5: Effectively work in teams in a professional way to respond to an industry brief

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of in-class activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities promote your ability to enquire, investigate, analyse and solve fashion business problems.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Assignment Task 1: Market Research Report & Presentation (20%)

Assignment Task 2: Survey Results, Initial Design Idea & Presentation (50%)

Assignment Task 3: Final Collection Pitch - Group - (30%),
CLOs 3, 4 & 5
