Course Description

In this course you will work with a range of digital media, techniques, formats and strategies to generate, represent and communicate design ideas and concepts. 

There are many ways in which we communicate and share concepts and ideas with designers, producers, suppliers and clients within the fashion and textile industry, as well as to professionals and practitioners beyond the field. The aim of this course is to develop your sustainable fashion communication approach to design and visual language through a series of class exercises and projects, whilst acknowledging global principles such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The course will enable you to effectively communicate your ideas through digital media. 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes 

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

PLO1: Demonstrate and apply a diverse and industry-relevant body of skills and knowledge in sustainable innovation for the fashion and textiles industry, related fields and emerging markets.

PLO3: Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation when identifying and solving problems in diverse contexts within the field of fashion and textiles sustainable innovation.

PLO4: Communicate using diverse formats and strategies with stakeholders within and external to your discipline.


Course Learning outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO 1: Demonstrate,  evaluate and apply digital tools to generate images including drawings, visualise data and communicate concepts.  

CLO 2: Analyse and evaluate different ways to translate ideas to a range of stakeholders within, and external to, the fashion and textile industry. 

CLO 3: Reflect on and discuss your personal approach to digital communication strategies 


Overview of Learning Activities

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of in-class and online activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities will promote your ability to investigate, plan, analyse, prototype, and realise ideas for fashion and textile based sustainable innovation.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome.

Assessment Tasks:
Assessment 1: Student Video (10%), CLO 1  

Assessment 2: Digital Folio (40%), CLOs 1, 2 & 3

Assessment 3: Communique (50%), CLOs 1, 2 & 3
