Course Description
This course broadly introduces you to Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT) and Augmented and Virtual Reality in the context of fashion and wearables. You will examine how these technologies are fundamentally changing how clothes are made, consumed and experienced from textile material defect detection, virtual clothing design, 3D avatars, customisation, online retail, fashion styling, and the customer experience. You will examine key developments and emerging trends to identify opportunities, as well as understand ethical considerations and current limitations. You will also be introduced to basic programming techniques for AI.

As this is a program option course, only Course Learning Outcomes are applicable.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
CLO 1: Identify and discuss key developments and opportunities for using AI across the fashion industry.
CLO 2: Examine ethical considerations, potential for industry disruption and current limitations of AI technology for fashion.
CLO 3: Develop strategies for applying AI and related technologies to diverse fashion contexts.

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of in-class and online activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities will promote your ability to propose, investigate, plan, analyse, and realise sustainable innovative fashion and textile solutions.

Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome. They are as follows:
