Successful completion of GRAP2888 Advanced Fashion Design Strategies and GRAP2889 Advanced Fashion Research Methods before you commence this course.

 

Required Concurrent Study 

Undertake GRAP2891 Masters Fashion Presentation and Folio at the same time as this course as it contains areas of knowledge and skills which are implemented together in practice. 


Course Description

In this course you will realise a Masters major fashion design project which may include a variety of design outcomes to aptly express your fashion design practice.

You will work through a structured series of dynamic simulated practice learning experiences designed to assist you in managing and producing your own design project and developing strategies for future independent design practice or further study.

This course aims to extend and interrogate your master of fashion design skills at a high level.

You will realise an innovative and original fashion design project that will be showcased in a public forum. You will evolve your capacity to work in a forward thinking and professional manner by communicating your work in a highly refined format, culminating in a tangible major body of work.

Extending from the investigative work achieved in Advanced Fashion Design Strategies and Advanced Fashion Research Methods, you will extend and enhance your ability to establish and resolve your own program of fashion investigation that can best convey your particular ethos and practice.

Program Learning Outcomes

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

PLO 3: Determine and apply the specialist knowledge and technical skills required creatively solve problems, demonstrating independent expert judgment and ethical responsibility relating to your professional practice in the broader system of fashion

PLO 4: Critically analyse, synthesise and reflect on ethical, social, cultural, environmental and political concerns related to fashion, both local and international, to extend and challenge knowledge and practice in the discipline of fashion design

PLO7: Implement research methods and design strategies to design and execute substantial projects, evaluate the outcomes and contribute to the fashion profession and the field of knowledge in the discipline

PLO8: Master a body of knowledge and specific technical and research skills to progress your professional career within the contemporary field of fashion


Course Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO1: Develop, create and master an advanced fashion design body of work

CLO2: Apply innovative research and technical skills to enable original and professional fashion outcomes

CLO3: Critically analyse, reflect upon, and communicate the concepts embodying your own work through advanced expressive mediums and design methodologies

CLO4: Position your design work in relation to cultural movements, social issues and their relevance to fashion


Overview of Learning Activities

This course will be delivered in a range of formats and may include key project milestone tutorials, guided self directed studio practice, masterclasses designed to compliment your progress and give you additional access to industry and practice experts related to key progress milestones of your project, workshops with staff, program alumni and guests, project supervisions, critiques and reviews. It will involve a high level of self-directed research, experimentation, construction, prototyping and presentation in a variety of media.

You will extend and master your own design inquiry to develop a professional fashion body of work that will be disseminated within a public realm, and which may involve working with other disciplines, working with industry partners or working independently.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the courses learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome. They are as follows:

Assessment Task 1: GARMENT METHODS AND MATERIAL PRACTICE
Masters fashion design body of work applying the aims and methods of the project through realisation of garments and wearables, 40%
CLOs: 1, 2 

Assessment Task 2: EMBODIED FASHION PRACTICE
Presentation of Masters Fashion Design Project aims, methods and outcomes, and emergent fashion practice 60%
CLOs: 2, 3, 4
