Course Description

This course has an emphasis on numeracy leadership and professional learning that can identify school-wide issues in teaching and develop approaches to addressing those issues. You will explore the skills and knowledge required to be an be a graduate generalist teacher who has specialized knowledge of mathematics teaching and leadership. You will analyse and interpret school wide numeracy data and use this information to effect change in a school setting. You will explore effective strategies to lead the development of whole school approaches to numeracy teaching and learning, curriculum planning and professional learning.

In this course, you will develop the following program learning outcomes:   

3. Support students to develop the skills needed to become collaborative, problem-solving, creative learners with agency, and innovative and engaged members of society. 

5. Demonstrate agency and an emerging professional identity through their application of effective learning and teaching practices 

8. Draw on evidence-based theory and reflective practice to adapt to the changing needs of the profession and to identify professional learning needs to improve student learning outcomes. 


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

3.  Critically explore and reflect on strategies for effectively collaborating and leading numeracy learning and teaching teams  6.1, 6.3, 7.1, 7.4 
4.  Consider and apply strategies for working with colleagues to appraise and improve numeracy teaching  2.5, 3.6, 6.3

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as workshops, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Teaching and learning may be face to face, online, or a combination of both.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes (CLO) and on your development against the program learning outcomes. The assessment is also mapped against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST).
