Course Description
Construction Technology 1 focuses on the application of scientific knowledge for constructing low-rise residential buildings. This course will introduce you to forms of residential construction, the materials and technologies associated with construction, as well as environmental and safety considerations when constructing residential buildings. It will provide you with an understanding of residential structures, and how to design structural member sizes. This course will aid you as a graduate to deliver professional expertise to a residential construction project, providing high quality outcomes.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
This course contributes to the program learning outcomes for BH112P24 Bachelor of Project Management (Honours), BH113P24 Bachelor of Property Development, Investment & Valuation (Honours), and BH114P24, BH114HVT24, BH114SIM24 Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours):

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- CLO1: Describe construction forms, sequencing, materials, technologies, and building components generally associated with residential buildings
- CLO2: Design member sizes for economical construction
- CLO3: Analyse how residential buildings are constructed considering health, safety and the environment
- CLO4: Communicate construction design solutions for residential buildings to relevant stakeholders
Overview of Learning Activities
Students will gain an appreciation and understanding of basic structures to residential construction setting up basic knowledge for later semesters. Students learning experiences will be gained through lectures and tutorials.
