Course Description

With digitalisation and the rise of online platforms and transactions, cross-border e-commerce has not only grown rapidly but also significantly improved trade across international borders. In this course, you will review and critically analyse a variety of contemporary issues that are crucial to managing cross-border e-commerce in the digital era. You will develop your skills and abilities to evaluate business opportunities, adopt suitable operating strategies, and deal with related challenges to succeed in the ecosystem of cross-border e-commerce in international markets. 

 

The course is divided into three parts: overview of cross-border e- commerce; cross-border e-commerce business models and operations; future trends and challenges of cross-border e-commerce. This course includes a work integrated learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context in the field of cross-border e-commerce.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to: 

1. Demonstrate an advanced and comprehensive understanding of the main business models and key aspects of cross-border e- commerce. 

2. Identify, critically analyse and evaluate opportunities and challenges in the ecosystem of cross-border e-commerce businesses.

3. Integrate knowledge, skills and abilities to deal with the main issues and challenges in operating cross-border e-commerce businesses. 

4. Critically evaluate local and international cross-border e-commerce trends and explore strategies to keep the cross-border e-commerce business sustainable and competitive in global markets. 


Overview of Learning Activities

This course will comprise three parts with eleven modules on cross-border e-commerce. You’re expected to complete three assessment tasks individually and within groups. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities, including in-class and online activities; prescribed readings; analysing video material; case studies; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; in-class discussions and presentations; collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.  

 

As a WIL course, you will have the opportunity to participate in industry engaged learning and teaching activities such as guest lectures and an industry project in which feedback from industry is integral to your experience. 


Overview of Learning Resources

Various learning resources are available online through myRMIT/Canvas. In addition to topic notes, assessment details and a study schedule, you may also be provided with links to relevant online information, readings, audio and video clips and communication tools to facilitate collaboration with your peers and to share information.
