Assumed knowledge 

This is a capstone course in the BP354 Bachelor of Professional Communication program and should be completed in the final year of the program. 


Course Description

Through this capstone course you will showcase the knowledge and skills you have acquired throughout the program, and prepare to launch into professional practice or future study.  

In this course, you will propose and work on an industry project of your choice (individually or collaboratively). In this Work Intergrated Learning (WIL) Project, you will work with an industry mentor and throughout the Semester, your mentor will provide you with guidance and feedback on your project.  

In this course you will develop your folio, CV, presentation and networking skills. The course culminates in ‘Pitch Night’ where you will present yourself and your folio to key industry people. After Pitch Night you will reflect on your experience throughout the course. 

This is a designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course for the Advertising major. This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience.

Course Learning Outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: 

  1. Critically analyse advertising and consumer behaviour to respond to real-world communication objectives. 
  2. Develop high-level creative and strategic solutions to communication problems and opportunities as a response to a client’s business objective. 
  3. Produce a portfolio of work that showcases creative and strategic skills to a professional standard. 
  4. Critically reflect on your own practice and the feedback you receive from others.

You will be actively engaged in learning that involves a range of activities such as studios, project work, an industry seminar series, class discussion, individual and group activities.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment may include essays, reports, reflective papers, creative projects and presentations, individually and in groups. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. 

Assessment Tasks 

Assessment 1: Individual or Team Assignment – Project proposal [25% Addressing CLOs: 1 & 2] 

Assessment 2: Individual Assignment - Folio/Case Study [40% Addressing CLOs: 2, 3 & 4] 

Assessment 3: Individual or Team Assignment - Project Presentation [35% Addressing CLOs 1, 2, 3, 4]
