Course Description

This research course is specifically designed to equip you with the essential research skills that are paramount in the modern business environment. The objective of this course is to expand your technical and managerial outlooks by providing you with practical applications of business concepts and knowledge to real-world situations.

In this course, you will acquire expertise in methodologies and tools for identifying, researching, and analysing business problems in the managerial context.

The course covers fundamental research paradigms and both qualitative and quantitative methods that are used to unpack business problems. Additionally, you will learn how to research and synthesise information from diverse sources and perform various analyses to arrive at effective solutions. The course explores the processes of analytics to equip students with the ability to apply methodologies in solving business problems and developing innovative solutions. The course culminates in a research project that requires you to select an appropriate research topic, research methodology and methods, and conduct the research in consultation with the academic staff.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO1: Critically examine and compare various research methods, including their theoretical underpinnings, to determine the appropriateness and effectiveness of each method in investigating complex business problems.

CLO2: Synthesise information from various sources and diverse analyses to develop a coherent exposition for effective solutions to complex business problems.

CLO3: Formulate viable research questions and demonstrate critical analysis, drawing upon diverse sources and analyses.

CLO4: Develop and execute a research project, including selecting an appropriate research topic, methodology, and research methods, while adhering to ethical principles and professional standards.

CLO5: Communicate research findings effectively through written and oral presentation, demonstrating proficiency in academic writing and analytical skills.

CLO6: Critically evaluate research findings and contribute to the development of new knowledge in the relevant field of research.


Overview of Learning Activities

This course involves a research project, in which you will be required to select an appropriate research topic, methodology, and research methods. The suitability of the research project in meeting your learning goals and academic standards will be discussed and mutually agreed upon with academic staff.

Throughout the research project, you will receive constructive feedback, comprising guidance and academic critique, on the research processes and outcomes. This feedback will be provided promptly during the research phase to ensure that you stay on track and address any issues.

Upon submission of your research project, formal feedback will be provided to help you evaluate your work, identify areas for improvement, and consolidate your learning. This course aims to enhance your research skills and provide you with valuable feedback to develop your research expertise.
